1. CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS
Responsibilities:

• Create a Construction Safety Manual that include OSHA standards and will be specific to all construction volunteer related activities on the job site.
•  Create an inventory and safety check list for all tools and materials in our tool trailer and used on our construction sites *Create an MSDS Folder for all chemicals stored and used on the job sites
•  Create a network of subcontractors and suppliers, especially those with green practices, that can become construction committee members, donate pro-bono services, or donate materials for construction sites to offset costs.

Create and implement Sandlot University including finding experts in the field as guest speakers, class schedule/agenda, and registration/implementation of the class.

2. CONSTRUCTION CREW LEADERSHIP
Responsibilities:

• Supervise crews of volunteers and home buyers on new construction, rehabilitation, and repair sites
• Participate in carrying out construction tasks on a daily basis
• Help prepare the work site for volunteer activities 2-3 days per week, including identifying materials needed at the construction site and acquiring materials at Home Depot/Lowe’s stores; with this AmeriCorps we may be able to increase our construction work schedule to 3-4 days a week.
• Assist the Construction Director with planning and leading volunteer workdays on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
• Provide support to the Habitat Construction Director, Volunteer Manager, volunteers, and homeowners
• Assist the Construction staff in implementing the A Brush With Kindness program
• Attend staff meetings and construction team meetings
• Learn OSHA standards and practices to implement on construction site

3. RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
Responsibilities:

• Contacting prospects and planning initial meetings, including agendas. Working with committee to identify long range goals and objectives.
• Documenting all the successes of the programs, and creating written policies and procedure manuals for use by staff and committee members in subsequent years.
• Interviewing Habitat families on video and written reports to collect their Habitat story.
• Collecting and organizing historical photos and materials from builds beginning in 1990.
• Planning, Creation, Dissemination and implementation of a 25th Anniversary Annual Report and create a process for these so they are sustainable processes for the future.

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia is a current participant in CAN(Communications Action Network), which is a regional initiative of more than 160 local organizations.

This Saturday, May 18th, CAN is working together to promote awareness about affordable housing in various communities by hosting the Parade of homes from 11am-3pm. This event will feature 17 communities in the District of Columbia, Alexandria, Falls Church, and Arlington, Fairfax, Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. Our region’s first ever affordable communities parade of homes will showcase the social and economic benefits to our region of the wonderful communities and opportunities the participants have created.

to Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia
Sponsorship Supports New Home Build in Falls Church and Other Initiatives

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Arlington, Virginia, April 23, 2013: Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia announces with gratitude a $150,000 grant by E*TRADE Bank.  This grant makes E*TRADE Bank a premier “Golden Hammer” sponsor of a new home that the non-profit organization is building on Douglass Avenue in Falls Church, Virginia.  E*TRADE Bank’s sponsorship also supports Habitat for Humanity’s Land Fund, a future home-build site, and a sponsorship of the organization’s fall benefit breakfast.

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia Executive Director, Reverend Jon Smoot, expressed his appreciation by saying, “We are so grateful for the generous support from E*TRADE Bank, and for its ongoing commitment to assist us to provide affordable home ownership opportunities to hard-working, lower-income families in Northern Virginia”  Site clearing and ground breaking for the new three bedroom, two bath single family home on Douglass Avenue, in the historic James Lee/Tinner Hill neighborhood of Falls Church is scheduled for June 25th.

A family will be chosen in the coming weeks to partner with Habitat, and will provide at least 500 hours of its own “sweat equity” during the Falls Church construction.  As part of E*TRADE Bank’s sponsorship, the Company’s employees will also have the opportunity to take part by volunteering hours on the construction of this new home build.

“We are proud to support such an important organization and provide a positive impact in the communities we serve,” said Kelvin James, Director, Community Investment at E*TRADE.  “It is our hope that E*TRADE Bank’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity serves as a model and a call to others to get involved and make a difference.”
