When can I volunteer?

Construction:

Wednesdays & Saturdays generally 8:00am – 4:00pm (this varies by opportunity). Construction opportunities are very limited. Volunteers can check our website VOLUNTEER CONNECT or sign up for our email list if you would like us to  notify you of new construction opportunities by emailing your name and email address to rkrempasky@habitatnova.org.

ReStores: 

Our ReStores are open Monday – Saturdays. Volunteers must sign up on-line VOLUNTEER CONNECT  before attending their volunteer shifts. Volunteers under 18 MUST bring a signed HFHNV Volunteer Waiver to the ReStore managers on their first volunteer day.

Is there a minimum age requirement?

Construction:

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to work on a construction site. Sixteen and 17-year olds must have a parent or guardian sign a HFHNV Volunteer Waiver and bring this form to the job site. Those under 18 must not use power tools, climb ladders, or work on scaffolding or the roof. Volunteers 18 and older can sign the online waiver form or sign the waiver on site.

ReStores:

Volunteers for the ReStore must be 12 years or older. Volunteers 12 – 15 must be accompanied by an adult (age 21 or older) and have a HFHNV Volunteer Waiver by a parent or guardian. Volunteers 16 – 17 must have a HFHNV Volunteer Waiver  by a parent or guardian but may volunteer on their own.

What will happen when I arrive at the site?

Construction:

At the beginning of each workday, a Habitat site supervisor will start the morning with a welcome, introductions, a safety talk and instructions, and a moment of silence. The group will then break into crews to work on the various building tasks.

 ReStores:

At the beginning of your shift, a Habitat ReStore manager will give a brief orientation and assign you to a task within the ReStore.

Will I need to sign a Release of Liability?

Each Habitat volunteer must sign a HFHNV Volunteer Waiver.

Community service volunteers (including school, court and lawyer-recommended) can learn more about recording community service hours here .
