100 FAMILIES SERVED GROUNDBREAKING

On April 6, 2018, we proudly broke ground on new homes for our 99th and 100th Habitat NOVA homeowners marking a significant milestone in our 28+ year history — “100 Families Served” since our inception in 1990. A point of pride we’ll shout from the rooftops all year long!

At the groundbreaking ceremony, we welcomed more than 50 attendees including guest speakers Senator Adam Ebbin, Representative Mark Sickles, Supervisor Dan Storck, Dominica Green, Vice-President at Freddie Mac, and Col. John Morris from Fort Belvoir. In addition, several corporate sponsors joined us marking this milestone event, including representatives from Freddie Mac, Northrop Grumman, and the Safeway Foundation.

We were also deeply honored to celebrate the vision and astounding generosity of Dr. Richard Semmler. His legacy of philanthropy and volunteerism is renowned in our community. As a founding supporter, he has donated more than $400,000 to our affiliate over the years, including $100,000 in 2005 at our 50th home celebration, to be used for our 100th home. In his volunteer service as a Sandlot construction team member, he has been integral in helping numerous families build their own and fulfill their goal of strength, stability, and self-reliance. It was our great pleasure at the 100 Families Served Groundbreaking to recognize his distinguished support of our mission and impact.

Many thanks to everyone who attended. You make our work in Northern Virginia possible. With your continued support of Habitat NOVA, we are steadfast in our mission to build lives as well as homes for many more local low-to-moderate income parents wanting to ensure strength, stability, and self-reliance for themselves and their family.
